Local Business Tax Receipts

A Local Business Tax Receipt (BTR) is the method by which the City Council grants the privilege of engaging in or managing any business, profession or occupation within its jurisdiction. It does not mean any fees or licenses paid to any board, commission, or officer for permits, registration, examination, or inspection. Unless otherwise provided by law, these are deemed to be regulatory and in addition to, but not in lieu of, any local business tax imposed under the provisions of chapter 205, Florida Statutes.

A local business tax is required for the following:

  • Any person who maintains a permanent business location or branch office within the city, for the privilege of engaging in or managing any business, profession or occupation within the city,
  • Any person who transacts any business or engages in any occupation or profession in interstate commerce, if such tax is not prohibited by section 8 of article 1 of the United States Constitution.
