  • Family Fun Day

    Join the Maitland Police Department for one of the biggest dates on the city's yearly calendar.

    Family Fun Day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, in Independence Square will include several inflatable bounce houses and slides, games and prizes, face painters, balloon artists, a music DJ, displays, vendors and food trucks. Meet the Maitland police officers and get an up-close look at the department's vehicles.

    Parking is available north of Independence Lane on Horatio Avenue and south on Packwood Avenue.

  • Farmer's Market Canceled Feb. 1

    The Feb. 1 Maitland Farmer's Market is canceled due to forecasted inclement weather. The weekly market will return from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. the following Sunday, Feb. 8, on Independence Lane, weather pending. 

    The market features a unique selection of vendors with food, crafts, local products, plants, flowers and produce spread among dozens of tents along Independence Lane and inside the scenic Independence Square.

    A kids area has an inflatable bounce house and games on the lawn. Enjoy live music courtesy of Performing Arts Matter. 

    Free parking is conveniently located south of Independence Lane across Packwood Avenue and north of Independence Lane across Horatio Avenue. Look for directional signs around the event site.

  • Maitland Avenue Closure Update

    Unforeseen difficulties with construction of a city sewer lift station will require at least three additional weeks for the existing closure of Maitland Avenue between Sandspur Road and Marion Way.

    The existing vehicle traffic detour at northbound Maitland Avenue and Sandspur Road is extended until mid February due to additional work needed for construction of a new sewer pump lift station on Marion Way.

    All of northbound Maitland Avenue will remain closed to thru vehicle traffic between Sandspur Road and Marion Way. The City of Maitland is working closely with construction contractors to help expedite additional work and, whenever possible, to reduce the amount of time needed for the detour extension.

    Motorists traveling north on Maitland Avenue must follow the posted detour onto westbound Sandspur Road to Hope Road or to Wymore Road to reach Maitland Boulevard. The extended closure includes the northbound, left turn-lane on Maitland Avenue into the Shalom Orlando campus at 851 N. Maitland Ave. The Marion Avenue partial road closure also will remain during this period.

    Motorists should avoid this area, if possible, using northbound Orlando Avenue to connect with Maitland Boulevard. Utilize Horatio Avenue as the fastest access to cut over between Maitland Avenue and Orlando Avenue - avoid using East Sybelia Avenue. Maitland police will remain at the Sandspur Road detour during business hours weekdays to maintain traffic safety.

    Motorists must access Shalom Orlando from Maitland Boulevard, turning onto southbound Maitland Avenue and turning right into the property. Those leaving Shalom Orlando must turn right onto southbound Maitland Avenue and drive toward Sandspur Road. Left turns will not be permitted to exit Shalom Orlando onto northbound Maitland Avenue.

    Motorists can access business properties on the east side of Maitland Avenue north of Marion Way only by driving south on Maitland Avenue from Maitland Boulevard and following a mandatory U-turn at the intersection with Marion Way. Vehicles can enter the office buildings at 700 and 800 N. Maitland Avenue south of Marion Way only by limited access through the detour at Sandspur Road. Motorists must exit these properties via a single, eastbound lane of Marion Way near the intersection with Maitland Avenue and head east toward Gamewell Avenue.

  • Special Needs Registry

    A Maitland Police Department program helps to provide more effective and positive interactions with individuals who have special needs.

    The Special Needs Registry provides officers with important information about autism or other conditions that may affect a person’s ability to speak, understand, or respond in typical ways during emergencies or service calls. 

    Details include the individual’s address and any communication challenges resulting from age, limited mobility or medical conditions such as Autism Spectrum Disorder, Alzheimer’s or Dementia, Bipolar Disorder, and Down Syndrome that should be addressed for better awareness, understanding, and compassion.

    Participants will receive a Maitland Police Department vinyl decal to display on or near the front door of your home. 

    When a police officer has contact with a person listed on the registry, the department’s 9-1-1 center can provide useful information to help the officer successfully interact and communicate. The registry can also provide the parent or caregiver’s emergency contact information.
