[ARCHIVED] Boardwalk Reconstruction

The recreational boardwalk on the east side of Maitland Community Park, located at 1400 Mayo Avenue, is closed for reconstruction until early fall 2025.

The project will widen 600 feet of the elevated wooden boardwalk from 8 feet to 10 feet wide to better accommodate bicyclists and pedestrians. Metal gates on either side of the boardwalk also will be replaced.

During construction, park access will be limited to the main entrance on Mayo Avenue. Visitors can get around the boardwalk closure from the south side of the park, using the residential streets Indian Dance Court, The Oaks Drive, Sequoia Trail, Chippewa Trail and Arapaho Trail. This area includes two connector paths  - one between The Oaks Drive and Indian Dance Court, and the other path between Indian Dance Court and Chippewa Trail.

Work began January 6.

The boardwalk is a direct link in an east-west trail connector that aims to provide an unobstructed recreational route between a residential area east of Maitland Community Park and Fennell Park on the west side of Maitland. Maitland currently has nearly 18 miles of trails, paths and bike lanes extending through many residential and commercial areas.
