Hurricane Milton Update - 8:45 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6

A flood watch will continue in this area through Thursday with slow-moving rain early in the week. Then, as Hurricane Milton approaches Florida by Wednesday, the threat for heavy rain will heighten further with up to 5 to 10 inches of rain.

Here is the latest update on Hurricane Milton’s projected path from the National Hurricane Center.

A flood watch will continue in this area through Thursday with slow-moving rain early in the week. Then, as Hurricane Milton approaches Florida by Wednesday, the threat for heavy rain will heighten further with up to 5 to 10 inches of rain locally.

High winds increase the threat of flying debris as the hurricane approaches. Residents should bring in outdoor furniture and other unsecured items from around the yard.

Tree limbs and yard waste left from Hurricane Helene should be cleaned up prior to Milton’s arrival. The City of Maitland will provide updates this week on Wednesday yard waste collection, which could be impacted by the possibility of severe weather and the availability at local landfills.

If yard waste collection is canceled Wednesday, tree limbs and other yard debris should be secured or brought inside.

If collection is possible, yard debris must be placed in bags or containers weighing no more than 50 pounds each or tied together in bundles measuring no longer than 4 feet to ensure proper curbside pickup.

Oversized, unbundled or very large limbs will not be collected. Landscape or tree trimming contractors may take large amounts of limbs and yard waste directly to the Seminole County Central Transfer Station at 1950 State Road 419 in Longwood.

To schedule special collections through the City of Maitland, please contact the Utility Billing Division at (407) 539-6265 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays to Thursdays.
